Welsh NHS Confederation relaunches as the Welsh NHS Alliance with enhanced support for NHS leaders in Wales
The news was officially announced at the organisation's annual conference this week, which convened a record-breaking 600 delegates.
The Welsh NHS Confederation has relaunched as the Welsh NHS Alliance at its annual conference, WelshConfed26, this week, with an enhanced member offer and a renewed focus on supporting NHS leaders to deliver better health and care for the people of Wales.
WelshConfed26, held on 3 and 4 November, brought together NHS leaders and partners from across a range of sectors at a pivotal moment for health and care in Wales. The organisation’s first two-day annual conference, and its first with the new Welsh Government, provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships and explore how to turn the Programme for Government and newly announced Health and Social Care Strategy into better health and care outcomes.
The Welsh NHS Alliance builds on the Welsh NHS Confederation’s established role and relationships, with its core purpose unchanged: to represent, support, develop and connect NHS organisations in Wales so that the NHS performs at its best and improves patient care.
It will ensure NHS leaders’ views and experience inform decisions shaping the future of health and care, while offering greater access to events, training and opportunities to learn and collaborate across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and hosted organisations across the NHS Alliance.
The Welsh NHS Alliance will also launch a new Associate Member Scheme designed to connect partners with NHS leaders and their organisations at a national level across Wales, creating opportunities for collaboration, shared learning and joint working to improve health and care.
Director of the Welsh NHS Alliance, Darren Hughes, said:
“This is more than a new name. It is a renewed commitment to delivering even greater value for our members at a pivotal moment for the NHS in Wales. “Our purpose and the relationships we have built remain at the heart of everything we do. As the Welsh NHS Alliance, we will combine that strong Welsh focus with greater opportunities for learning, leadership development and collaboration across the wider NHS Alliance.
“We will help members shape and deliver the Welsh Government’s ambitions for health and care, ensuring their experience is heard and supporting them to turn policy into practical improvements for patients. That is what collective strength for better health and care means in Wales.”
Chair of the Welsh NHS Alliance and member organisation Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Jonathan Morgan, said:
“NHS leaders need an independent, strong collective voice and practical support to deliver. The Welsh NHS Alliance’s renewed focus and enhanced member offer will help us learn from one another, strengthen leadership and build the partnerships needed to improve care. At this important moment for Wales, that combination of influence, insight and connection matters.”
