About our conference with the Q community

Brought to you by the NHS Alliance and the Q community, this highly interactive conference will bring together system leaders, quality improvement specialists and operational leads to explore how the ambitions of the Quality Strategy for England can be translated into meaningful, locally led action across all parts of the NHS.

In a context of rising demand and sustained pressure across health and care, leaders face the ongoing challenge of balancing immediate priorities with long-term transformation. This event will provide an opportunity to explore the practical tools, strategic approaches and collaborative ways of working needed to deliver high-quality care and drive lasting improvement.

Why attend?

Drawing on insights from leading practitioners and national figures, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn from peers and national leaders
  • Explore practical examples of quality improvement in action
  • Discover new methods, tools and approaches
  • Build the confidence and capability needed to lead high-quality, resilient services
  • Connect with colleagues from across the NHS and the Q improvement community to share learning and experience

The opportunity to exchange ideas, challenges and solutions with peers, explore case studies, and learn from different experiences was invaluable. The discussions were honest, reflective and informative, with a strong focus on turning learning into meaningful improvement.

    • Registration, exhibition and networking

  2. 10:00Opening remarks

  3. 10:10Plenary

    • Leading quality for all

What will it take for quality to really become the organising principle of the NHS? This session will explore a shared vision for quality that explicitly reduces inequalities and touches all parts of the health sector. Leaders will share examples for how to turn the quality strategy’s ambitions into reality at national and local level.

  4. 10:50Plenary

    • Making it all add up: aligning quality and productivity goals

This session will help leaders prioritise and align their efforts to make the best use of available resources. Explore practical strategies for ensuring quality and productivity work together to support better outcomes, rather than being competing priorities. Understand how we can shift the conversation nationally and locally from trade-offs to improving value.

  5. 11:30Refreshments, exhibition and networking

  6. 11:50Breakouts

    • Engaging people for quality

Explore how leaders can engage people delivering and using healthcare as an integral part of improving quality. Learn practical methods of partnering with patients and the public as co-producers of quality, rather than sources of feedback alone. Learn what works when it comes to inclusive engagement and valuing diverse perspectives. Expect a workshop that’s engaging in style as well as content.

    • Building effective Quality Management Systems

Quality Management Systems are identified as the means by which local organisations can deliver the quality strategy in England and have been part of what’s expected of organisations in Wales and Scotland for some time.  But what does QMS mean in practice for your organisation?  This session will give participants the opportunity to dive into examples from different health care settings across the UK.

      * This session is repeated in the afternoon, with a number of different examples.

  7. 12:50Lunch, networking and exhibition

  8. 13:50Breakouts

      * This session is a repeat from this morning but with a number of different examples.

    • Accelerating learning for quality

This session will consider how to combine easier access to data with asking the right questions and engaging people effectively to enhance how quality is managed. We’ll explore the data infrastructure and human capability needed to sustain QMS and how to build on what’s already available and happening within your organisation.

    • Maintaining and managing quality under pressure

This session will consider how we can stay proactive in understanding and sustaining quality and managing risk during periods of particular operational and financial pressure. Expect honest conversation, practical insights and shared learning focused on approaches that can help when resources are stretched.

  9. 14:50Refreshments, exhibition and networking

  10. 15:10Plenary

    • From learning to effective action: nationally and locally

There’s a multitude of recommendations and initiatives intended to improve quality of care in the NHS, but how do we make sure they deliver the intended benefits? The closing panel will explore work underway nationally to streamline expectations on local providers and commissioners, and equip leaders with insights to prioritise the things that will actually make a significant difference locally.

  11. 15:50Closing reflections
