Diverse teams are not just a 'nice to have'. An NHS workforce that reflects the communities it serves is critical for fostering effective relationships, building trust with communities and shaping services that work for everyone. Diversity ensures that communications strategies are inclusive, culturally sensitive and relevant to all.
The Taskforce for Diversity in NHS Communications — chaired by Edna Boampong (FCIM) and supported by NHS Providers, NHS Confederation and the Centre for Health Communication Research — has launched a landmark report and diversity charter, grounded in lived experience and shaped by evidence.
The findings are clear: despite progress, colleagues from ethnic minority backgrounds still do not experience the same access to opportunities, quality of experience, or career outcomes in NHS communications as their white counterparts.
The report sets out practical, evidence-based recommendations to improve racial diversity, equity and inclusion across NHS communications and engagement teams.
The Taskforce for Diversity in NHS Communications was established in September 2024 to develop practical recommendations to improve diversity in NHS communications and engagement workforce.
