Background to the NHS Modernisation Bill
On 13 May 2026, following the King’s Speech, the government introduced the NHS Modernisation Bill to parliament. This builds on the 10 Year Health Plan published last July and reflects extensive engagement across the sector, including with the NHS Alliance and our members.
Our role
Since September 2025, we have worked closely with members and partners to shape a collective response - through engagement across our networks, participation in the Department of Health and Social Care's Expert Legislative Review Group, a co-hosted roundtable in January, and a dedicated member reference group.
We will continue this work closely with members through our member reference group and will be running some webinars as the bill progresses.
